Spring Has Sprung: Vegetables and Nuts! – Personal Trainer Los Angeles

nuts

A SMALL handful of nuts is an easy way to get a solid energy boost any time of day. Most nuts are packed full of protein and contain beneficial fiber and healthy fats. They’re also low in carbohydrates but can pack a wallop of calories, if you’re not careful. They are one of the most heart healthy snacks around and are easy to grab and go. Nuts contain unsaturated fats which may help lower cholesterol. They can be a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids, which are also very beneficial for your heart. Did you know most nuts also contain vitamin E, L-arginine and plant sterols, all of which are heart healthy substances and aren’t readily found in most foods? Next time you need a quick, easy snack, reach for a SMALL handful of nuts.

Eat Your Veggies!

organic bikini saladIs something missing from your lunch or dinner plate? Could it be the pile of vegetables you know you should be consuming but just can’t quite make yourself eat?
You’ve heard it all before: vegetables are nutritious and delicious and an important part of your diet. Can’t stand them? Think about why you feel this way. Has it been an issue since childhood? Have you never found a vegetable you want to eat? Do raw vegetables upset your stomach? All of these are reasons why people don’t want to add them to their meals. And yet, there are so many types of vegetables out there that it seems silly to exclude all of them, just because you may find a few of them offensive.
Instead of staring at a big pile of veggies, why not add them into the rest of your meal? Hankering for a hearty steak? Why not slice the meat on the grain and toss into a bowl of arugula or baby lettuce for a great steak salad. Roasted chicken? A classic Chinese or BBQ chicken salad is a very satisfying way to incorporate veggies into almost every meal. Toss in carrots, potatoes, celery and onions into a stew or soup to add flavor and texture. It’s not as difficult as you think to create a healthy, delicious balanced meal.
You won’t even remember how much you “hate” vegetables.
