EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO HAPPINESS
(SANTA MONICA, CA May 30, 2012) –
Are you as happy as you should be? Statistics from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Better Life Index show that most people are not. Every year in about thirty-six countries, a survey is conducted in order to find out how satisfied people are with their lives. The statistics are determined by factors that include health care, social networking, economical prosperity, and employment. The United States did not even make it onto the list for the top ten happiest countries like Australia or Thailand, it was ranked number twelve.
The country you live in doesn’t have to determine your level of happiness though, as this all depends on how you are handing your life. If you are constantly stressed, depressed, or anxious then you will need to find out what activities makes you happy. Though, no matter what type of stress you are feeling, you can improve your overall mental condition with a bit of exercise. A study conducted by Duke University has reported that regular workouts are just as effective as a treatment compared to medications designed for depression.
So, how does exercise actually make us feel better? Physical activity can help one’s mental condition in several ways. Exercise will transform our bodies into one we can be proud to show off, which will provide a huge boost to our self-confidence. Those with a higher self-confidence are able to better manage whatever obstacles life throws at them. Working out also produces endorphins; chemicals, which include serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, make the body naturally feel good. This will also relieve any stress or frustrations we may have bottled up. Performing any activity will also distract you from feelings of unhappiness or anxiety.
The best fitness program is one that involves resistance training, aerobic, and cardio exercises. It would be best to start off with a bit of strength training, then move onto stretching exercise, and end it with deep breathing exercises like yoga or perform meditation to clear your mind. Although training as intense as you can doesn’t sound like a stress relieving activity, it will in fact reduce stress, build strength, and tone your body. Realizing that you are preventing conditions and diseases like specific types of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, strokes, Alzheimer’s, osteoporosis, depression, obesity, and dementia from occurring should definitely make you happier.
