sitting at deskA 2014 study has revealed that sitting for long periods of time can actually be the cause of your death. Those is the United States are the main concern as millions of Americans can be classified as “couch potatoes,” meaning they sit on one place for a long stretches of time watching television. Of course, this can also apply to those who spend hours and hours working on a computer. The Physical Activity Council has recently released a survey that indicates that the inactivity of Americans has grown by over one million in 2011 bringing the total to around seventy million people.

This research simply confirms what we all know, that being consistently inactive will shorten our lifespan by quite a bit. It doesn’t matter what kind of sitting you do, whether it is sitting in front of the computer at work, driving, using the computer, or watching the television, you will be causing harm to your health and you will live a shorter life than others who are more active.

Less Sitting, More Doing!

Should you be worried?  Statistics show that most Americans will spend at least five hours watching television every single day. That is five hours of only the television, not including the your work day at the office that requires you to sit.  No one expects you to quit your job.  However, what you do after work is another story.  Although you may not want to miss your favorite shows, doing so will also increase the chances of you developing cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes. In fact, Harvard University released a study stating that every two hours a person sits the risk for cardiovascular disease is increased by twenty percent while the risk for type 2 diabetes is increased by twenty.

Mr. America Jason Kozma notes that “For many people, they don’t see excessive sitting as unhealthful, simply lazy. let’s hope these statistics will get out there and get sedentary people to exercise just to protect their essential health.”

Of course, you will not have to stand up forever. The main concern is that people who do sit around all day never get up to exercise. If a person doesn’t exercise, they will gain weight and increase the chances of developing any disease or serious condition. Keeping up this lifestyle for too long will make it easier for you to become obese, which can lead to conditions like diabetes, heart disease, or strokes.

Jason’s a really great trainer. I do the virtual personal training program because I know form, I just don’t have the knowledge to build my own plan. Jason’s always been very responsive whenever I have questions. He doesn’t give you a cookie-cutter plan; I have a few physical limitations and my gym doesn’t have the widest variety of equipment and he was very understanding and helped find the right exercise substitutions. I found the diet plan really helpful because it’s flexible enough where I can try different foods, but specific enough about how much and when to eat so I actually see results. Be clear with your goals and stick to what he says and you’ll definitely be happy with where you are in just a few months.

I live in Chicago so I used Jason's online personal training. It was a great experience especially for the price. He would monitor my workouts each week and let me know if I should be able to go heavier on an exercise based on everything else I was doing. He'd also review my recorded diet and tell me where to tweak things. He was also good about reminding me to update my weight and progress pics, and he'd adjust the workouts or diet based on that.
